Beautiful, very high and accessible, but very expensive. It's great to be able to visit a place so high up, on a glacier without any equipment! However, you get the feeling that it's an affluent foreign public (Chinese and Indian) that's being targeted (luxury watch boutiques, Dubai chocolate for sale at Lindt, boolywood restaurant...). Tourists weren't very polite in the Hall of Mirrors, which kind of spoiled my experience that day. I would also have liked to see some climate warnings on this fragile environment! But the only mention is of signs leading away from the star attractions towards the toilets. Conclusion: a must if you're in the area and can afford it, but if you're used to hiking and mountaineering, you can have great experiences elsewhere.

Absolutely loved the views at the top, gondola, restaurant, ice palace - everything was amazing, except the clarity of the information. Our return descent booked for 2 hours later it says, we had no clue when this 2 hours started from. Reservations end at a certain time apparently (couldn't find this information online anywhere either). Time slots? Reservation information? We were so confused so we just went straight up without taking our time, and when we got up, it was packed and then we did take our time. We stayed longer than 2 hours and thankfully the queues and the whole journey down wasn't too delayed when we didn't have a reservation.

Amazing place to visit. Was able to use Swiss half fare being a visitor which made it more affordable and some parts of the building were overcrowded with tourists but you can get to places which especially outside which aren't as busy. Best to book a return journey as I had to wait quite sometime to get back on a train with no reservation.

Top things to do in Interlaken

Jungfraujoch | The Top of Europe

Seated upon peaks that resemble swirls of vanilla ice cream, Jungfraujoch is Europe’s highest railway station. Occupying the saddle between the Jungfrau and Mӧnch mountains, Jungfraujoch offers mesmerising views of the Aletsch glacier (the Alps’ larget ice mass) on one hand — and up to the Black Forest in Germany on the other.

Things to know before booking Jungfraujoch tickets

  • Arriving from Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Interlaken, Lucerne, Geneva or Zurich? Round-trip tickets have got you covered, offering ease and convenience.
  • It’s advisable to make seat reservations on the Jungfraujoch railway in advance, as those with a reservation get priority entry. Otherwise, you can expect longer wait times.
  • While most tickets are inclusive of visits to the Sphinx Observatory, Alpine Sensation and Ice Palace, tickets to Snow Fun Park must be purchased separately.
  • Haven’t had enough of the pristine beauty of the Bernese Alps? Consider purchasing the Swiss Continuous Travel Pass with Access to Train, Bus and Boat that is valid from 3 up to 15 days.
  • If you are a wheelchair user, it is strongly recommended to take the Eiger Express tricable gondola car to Eiger Glacier station. From there, you can switch to the train that goes up to Jungfraujoch.
  • Pets are allowed at Jungfraujoch and don’t require a separate ticket on any travel routes, except on the Eiger Glacier to Jungfraujoch railway route, where each ticket costs 30 CHF per dog.

Why Visit Jungfraujoch?

Jungfraujoch Tickets
  • Breathtaking views: Scenic vistas of powdery snow, stark blue skies, and surrounding rocky terrain offer postcard-perfect scenery. From 3454 metres above sea level, you can see the Aletsch Glacier, the Jungfrau summit, and even up to the Vosges in France.
  • Explore the Ice Palace: Visitors can explore this magical complex of chambers filled with ice sculptures, tunnels, and slides.
  • Visit the Sphinx Observatory: One of the highest observatories and viewpoints in the world, visitors can learn about the ongoing research being conducted here.
  • Walk through the Alpine Sensation: This is a tribute to the miners that helped construct Jungfraujoch. It is a long corridor connecting the Ice Palace to the Sphinx Observatory, notable for its giant snow globe.
  • Snow Fun Park: If you’ve not had enough of the snow, head to Snow Fun Park to engage in sledding, skiing, ziplining and more.
  • Enjoy adventure activities: Jungfraujoch offers a range of adventure activities, including snowboarding, skiing, and sledding. Visitors can also take a walk on the glacier, or simply enjoy the alpine landscape.

  • Carry along sunglasses as the glare from the glaciers may cause snow blindness if you are not careful!
  • As you are ascending high altitudes, consult with a doctor before your trip — especially if you have hypertension, cardiovascular issues, etc.
  • Opt for the gondola ride, so you can enjoy two different modes of transport while heading up to Jungfraujoch.
  • Check the weather in advance and try to visit on a clear day for the best views.
  • There are few charging points up top, so carry a fully-charged power bank — your phone will need the juice for all the photos you’ll want to take!
  • Download the “Jungfraujoch Digital Tour Guide” and enjoy an audioguided tour of the attraction. You can also pre-download the guide and listen offline.
  • Keep an eye on the clock. Ensure you catch the last train down to avoid an unintentional overnight stay at the summit.
